Hello, my name is Rachel Allinson and I am the Assistant Headteacher who works with our youngest children at Green Lane.
In Early Years we ensure that our children are nurtured, helping them grow into happy and healthy individuals. At Green Lane, we believe that all children are entitled to the best possible start in their school life, in order to enable them to achieve their full potential.
There are lots of us in early years –
We have our 2 year old provision called ‘Little Buds’, our 3 and 4 year olds in Nursery and 3 Reception classes.
We follow “The Statutory Framework for EYFS” (Sept 2014) in order to teach the children in EYFS. The curriculum’s foci are the Prime areas in the document: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development. However we build on these areas with learning activities that develop children’s skills in not only Literacy and Maths but also ‘Understanding of the World’ and ‘Expressive Arts & Design’.
We encourage active learning through play and organise the day to provide a balance between:
- Child initiated learning – where children make choices in their learning environment to meet their own outcomes for learning.
- Adult initiated learning, where class teachers and early years practitioners provide resources to stimulate and consolidate prior learning.
- Adult directed activities – children work in small focus groups, planned to meet specific outcomes. These groups are used to plan and develop skills in Maths, English and Phonics.
We are mainly child led and our chosen topics reflect the interests of our children; examples of topics that we have followed include: Dinosaurs, Pirates, Weddings, “What I want to be when I Grow Up”, Animals and Farms. Throughout the topics the provision in the setting is planned around the skills that the children need to master in order to achieve and progress. This means no year is ever the same in our EYFS, making it an exciting place to learn.
The rich range of experiences we provide inspire and encourage children to be more independent, active and resilient learners, while providing opportunities for challenge.
If you are interested in a place for your child in Little Buds or Nursery, please ring school or pop in and say hello. We will be happy to welcome you into the Green Lane family and go through the admissions process with you.
